Over the weekend, Mahavtar Narsimha made a huge jump in ticket sales, earning ₹34.8 crore in just three days. That’s more than what Son of Sardaar 2 and Saiyaara earned, even though they had bigger stars and more publicity.
What Happened
In a surprise move, the animated movie Mahavtar Narsimha took the top spot at the box office. While Son of Sardaar 2 made ₹24.75 crore and Saiyaara earned ₹19.25 crore during the same weekend, Mahavtar Narsimha pulled ahead with ₹34.8 crore.
That means in just 10 days, the film has earned ₹91 crore—₹67 crore of that came just from the Hindi version. Meanwhile, Son of Sardaar 2 had trouble getting enough screen time in theatres, and Saiyaara didn’t grow as fast as expected.
One cinema owner put it simply: “We had to add more shows for Mahavtar Narsimha because people kept asking for it.”
Why Mahavtar Narsimha Worked
First, the film mixes Indian mythology with animation, which connected well with families. Parents brought their kids, and older viewers appreciated the spiritual story. Even though it had a smaller budget, the visuals were strong, and it was released in many languages, not just Hindi.
Second, word of mouth really helped. After a slow start, the film gained momentum. On its second Saturday alone, it earned ₹15 crore—more than many big films make on opening day.
Why the Other Two Slowed Down
Saiyaara, a romantic drama by Mohit Suri, was expected to do well and even crossed ₹266 crore in 12 days. But during the weekend, its numbers started to drop.
Son of Sardaar 2 had even more trouble. It was released late (on August 1), and by then, theatres had already given more shows to Mahavtar Narsimha and Saiyaara. Because of that, the film couldn’t get enough screens and lost out on weekend earnings.
What It Means for Movie Lovers
This shows that even small-budget animated films can become hits if they connect with the audience. People are open to watching something new, as long as the story is strong.
It also means that big stars and sequels don’t always win. Good content, smart timing, and audience interest matter more now than ever.
If you couldn’t find Son of Sardaar 2 playing near you, this is probably why. And if you’re waiting to watch Mahavtar Narsimha at home, it’s likely to come out on Jio Hotstar soon.
So next time a unique film like this comes around, don’t ignore it just because it’s animated. It might just surprise you.
