India's Nail-Biting Test Win Against England at The Oval (2025)

India won by just 6 runs, making it their closest Test match win ever! Their previous narrowest was by 13 runs against Australia in 2004.

It was also their tightest win over England, beating the 28-run win from 1972.

Only two Test matches in history have seen England lose by fewer runs—once by 1 run to New Zealand (2023) and once by 3 runs to Australia (1902). Another 6-run loss came way back in 1885!

📌 Fun Facts from the Match:
England nearly made history—this is the first time a team came so close (within 10 runs) chasing a target of 300+ and still lost. The previous closest was 11 runs in 1925!

At one point, England needed just 42 more runs with 6 wickets in hand, but collapsed badly. That kind of late collapse in a 300+ run chase has never happened before.

🔥 Mohammed Siraj’s Brilliant Series:

23 wickets: He’s now tied for the most wickets by an Indian fast bowler in a Test series in England (equal with Jasprit Bumrah in 2021-22).

185.3 overs: That’s a lot of bowling – second only to Bumrah's record.

In this match, Siraj got 5 batters out LBW (leg before wicket), matching a record by Kapil Dev. Only Irfan Pathan has more (7).

Of all the balls that would've hit the stumps in this game, Siraj took 8 wickets for just 26 runs. All other fast bowlers combined got 9 wickets for 109 runs!

💯 Joe Root’s Magic:

16 centuries vs India: That’s the most anyone’s ever hit against them (tied with Steve Smith).

13 Test centuries vs India alone – only Don Bradman (19 vs England) and Gavaskar (13 vs WI) are comparable.

3rd time Root has scored 500+ runs in a series against India – no one else has done this even twice.

Harry Brook’s Record:

Reached 10 Test hundreds in just 50 innings, making him the fastest in the last 80 years.

His strike rate (runs per 100 balls) of 113.86 is the highest ever for someone scoring a 4th-innings century vs India.

🗓️ Series Note:
Every match in this five-Test series went to Day 5, which is pretty rare. It's only happened three other times in this century.
